Laser aesthetic treatments use focused light to target hair follicles, pigment or scar tissue without cutting the skin. Most need a course of sessions spaced weeks apart. Settings are chosen for your skin type, which matters a great deal on Indian skin.
Laser works by targeting pigment. On darker skin the surrounding tissue also contains pigment, so settings that are safe on pale skin can cause burns, blistering and, most commonly, patches of darkening that take months to fade.
This is the single biggest reason laser goes wrong in India. The equipment is often fine. The settings are wrong for the skin in front of it. A test patch before the first full session is not a formality, it is how a burn is avoided.
Hair removal is the most predictable. A course of six to eight sessions reduces hair substantially, and occasional maintenance keeps it that way. It works best on dark hair, and poorly on grey or very fine light hair, because there is little pigment to target.
Scars, particularly acne scarring, respond to resurfacing lasers that stimulate collagen. Improvement is gradual over several sessions and is measured in degrees rather than in erasure. Pigmentation responds variably, and melasma in particular can worsen with the wrong laser, so it is approached cautiously.

No. Resurfacing improves texture and softens scar edges, often noticeably, but it does not erase scarring. Deep ice pick scars in particular respond only partially and may need other techniques alongside.
Redness and swelling for a day or two are expected. Genuine risks include burns, blistering, temporary darkening or lightening of the skin, and rarely scarring. Sun exposure immediately before or after increases all of them.
Aesthetic laser treatment is not covered. Laser used as part of reconstructive treatment, for example on burn scars, may be considered in some policies.
